World, Shut Your Mouth!

In my first term as a part of the University of York's Drama Society, DramaSoc, I participated in the production of two different shows: Dear Brutus, which I produced, and this show, World, Shut Your Mouth!

World, Shut Your Mouth!  was a dystopian drama written and directed by Tom Spencer. I was drawn to the interesting world and strong characters of the show, and applied to join the production team as the Director of Photography & Videography. Through this role, I had a part in taking both photos and videos that could then be shared on the show's Instagram page. Whilst this primarily consisted of rehearsal photos, I also created two trailers for the production - a teaser showing off some of the fight choreography, and then a longer, official trailer, which was released prior to the opening night of the show.

It was a lot of fun to have another go at creating a trailer for a play, as it was something I had not had the opportunity to do since making the teaser for The Macbeths. Due to the tight turnaround of DramaSoc shows, I didn't get much opportunity to capture footage of the actors in-costume and on-stage, and so had to piece a trailer together using footage I captured on the night of the dress rehearsal. This factor did limit what I was actually able to show with the trailer, as audio capture was all but off-the-table due to nearby band practice. However, given this limitation, I am very happy with the final product.
