"Did you just bite me?"

~ Chris

"5 years ago, Esme and Chris moved into the idyllic Cotswold village of Raperton-on-the-Water. Esme has adapted to village life, however, Chris is struggling. Despite this, Chris has agreed to attend the village fete. However, as the fete approaches, the sinister reality of the village is revealed."

Prime Meat  was the week five original drama night for the University of York Drama Society's Autumn Season 2023.

This was my first time acting in a show with DramaSoc after two years working backstage, in which I played the lead role, Chris Stockton. A city man who has begrudgingly made the move to the country, Chris is blunt and down-to-earth, and unappreciative of the village lifestyle. And when that village lifestyle turns out to be a cannibalistic cult that even his wife is a part of, his attempts to leave eventually prove futile.

I attempted to lean into the dry humour with my interpretation of the character, and I particularly enjoyed aiming for the emotional beats in the play's second half, and trying to (not) land the punches in the coordinated fight between Chris and one of the play's antagonists, Roland.
